Country information

  • Best time to travel
    The best time to visit Egypt’s sites (Cairo, red Sea Resort and Nile Cities) is from February to April and again between October and November. During these months, the sky and seas are perfectly blue.
    Winter time temperatures (December to February) are mild and can be overcast. Note that December is peak season and rates are calculated accordingly
  • Egypt Culture and Greetings
    Egypt’s Essential Views are defined as Honour, Loyalty, Education, Modesty and Pride
    Greetings between men and women: A handshake may be acceptable in certain circumstances and the woman must extend her hand first. If she does not, a man should bow his head as a sign of acknowledgment.
  • Drinks & Food
    There is a wide variety of offerings available ranging from the cheap food carts and street food that serve Egypt’s working class to fancy restaurants that cater solely to tourists and the upper class. Tea (shai) is the national drink of Egypt. Invitations to sit and drink tea together are an important part of the culture. Egyptians generally drink tea sweetened with a large amount of sugar. Alcohol is not widely consumed because of Islamic rules. Beer is popular and readily available in the larger cities. Buy your duty-free alcohol before entering the country.  
  • City Travel
    Government-owned Transport Authority run buses and tram services in Cairo (Very crowded). Buses and fixed taxi routes are run by private companies. The easiest way to get around Cairo is by Metro. Most used transport mode are taxies. Fix the rate before you start your journey. A comprehensive rail network runs through the country. Serving the Nile cities are various AC day and night trains with sleeping and restaurant cars serving Luxor and Aswan (Sleeper trains must be booked well in advance)
  • Tipping
    Also known as Backsheesh will be requested from you by “everyone”. Change your money into Egyptian Pounds for tips to porters, waiters, room staff and drivers. Official Guides are tipped in Foreign currency. Remember that the tips supplement the income of low Egyptian wages paid.  
  • Local interesting meals:
    Ful Mudamas: broad beans in sauce
    Koshari: lentils, macaroni, rice and chickpeas
    Mahshi: stuffed grape vine leaves
    Fiteer Baladi: known as Egyptian pizza, fiteer is buttery and full of artery-clogging goodness
    Falafel (Tameya): a deep-fried mixture of herbs and beans is a favorite, especially among vegetarians
    Kofta: minced beef or lamb with spices, rolled onto a skewer and barbecued over coals

Alexandria

Discover the old sites and history of Alexandria from its ancient Egyptian roots, through the Classical period to Roman times and beyond. During an enlightening full-day tour from Cairo see the new Library of Alexandria, the Roman Catacombs, and much more. Meet-and-greet service pick-up, and drop off from your Cairo hotel in the comfort of an air-conditioned bus.
Begin the journey with a visit to the Roman theater in Kom El-Deka. A marble theater that once seated 800 spectators with galleries, sections of mosaic flooring and a pleasure garden, all surrounded by Roman baths and villas.

Continue exploring the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa; the necropolis of 3 sub-levels dating from the 2nd century AD. It merges aspects of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman culture in its features. See the Roman triclinium – a banquet hall to honor the dead. As well as statues, reliefs, and a pillared lobby featuring depictions of Egyptian gods in Roman armor.

Next, wander through the lush Montaza Gardens, and see the site of the Alexandria Library. Concluding the tour, walk the ramparts of the 15th century Qaitbay Citadel. Built upon the ruins of the ancient Alexandria Lighthouse.

Day 1

Cairo

  • Arrive at Cairo International Airport where you will be met by our representative who will assist you through immigration. Transfer by A/C deluxe coach to your hotel and check-in.
  • Evening Sound and Light Performance at Pyramids.
  • Overnight at your hotel in Cairo.
Day 2

Cairo (B)

  • After breakfast, enjoy a full day visit to Memphis, Sakkara, the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx.
  • Overnight at your hotel in Cairo.
Day 3

Cairo (B-L)

  • After breakfast we have a full day tour to Alexandria in an air conditioned coach. (Cairo/Alexandria : 225 km)
  • Visit the Bibliotheca, Cata Combs, Roman Amphitheater, Pompey's Pillar and National Museum.
  • Return to Cairo for overnight at your hotel.
